A blessing for passionate people living in a complicated world:
May you learn to discover that which you can control, and that which you cannot. May this be freeing and not frustrating. May it frustrate you only to the extent that it prompts you to notice your longing to correct injustice, as well as your inability to do so on your own. May the distance between your anger and your abilities draw you to an ever-deepening dependence on God.
When conflict is avoidable, may you find the grace to walk the way of peace. When conflict is inevitable, may God prevent you from exercising your power over another, and give you a longing for his mercy, in which the only true power is contained.
And in everything, may you find remembrance of the true kingdom, one not of success, nor of becoming the conqueror, nor of overlooking the vulnerable, but rather one of surrender, of submission, and of extending your hand to the other. May you learn to pray for one another and to listen to each other deeply. May your faith be in eternity even while you are yet stuck in this place which is not your true home. May the brokenness around you not defeat you, but instead remind you of the world-made-whole for which you were made. And may you find the illogical strength to live into that world today.
