My name is Luke Joyce. In 2019, my young family returned from two years of living on the mission field in Honduras. I had no idea how hard reintegration was going to be, and I didn’t realize what was going on inside of me while it was happening. About the time I began to realize I was having some difficulty, the division that came along with a global pandemic swept through our world, and impacted so many of my relationships. The dysfunction in the way I related to God, to others, and even to myself exposed my great need… just as I would come to discover the practice of Spiritual direction. Having now completed a formational program through the Invitation Center, I offer you here what I feel to be most reflective of my experience growing closer to God, learning to relate to others, and understanding and accepting myself through Spiritual direction. It is neither a mastery of the topic nor a one-size-fits-all solution, but I believe it is an honest representation of my struggles to allow God to get to me, and I offer it with the hope that there may be something in it for you.
To offer a bit of the context you might expect here, I’m a husband and father of two middle-school-aged children. We live in Holland, MI, and I work in Middleville as the Operations Manager at Broadmoor Motor Sales. My family and I get back to Honduras once a year with medical mission teams through CSLG. I got my Mechanical Engineering degree from Calvin University and my MBA from GVSU. I grew up in western Pennsylvania, where my Christian family and school presented me with as many answers as questions, both superficial and profound, that I continue to work through every day.
I offer Spiritual direction in Holland and Middleville, MI, and can accommodate meeting somewhere in-between, as well as virtual Spiritual direction. I’d be honored if you reached out, and we can start a conversation.
